Zakynthos (also known as Zante) belongs to the Ionian Islands group, offering a geographical and cultural landscape that is completely different from the Cycladic islands previously discussed. The island is extremely safe and welcoming for LGBTQ+ travelers. While it is globally famous for mass family tourism due to the iconic Shipwreck Beach (Navagio), Zakynthos hides excellent natural retreats and a progressive local community, making it a well-known, low-key paradise for naturists.
Gay-Friendly and Nudist Beaches
The beaches in Zakynthos stand out for their golden sand and warm, crystal-clear waters. The gay-friendly scene is concentrated around well-established clothing-optional areas.
Vrontonero Beach
This is the primary gay and nudist meeting point on the island. It is located in the Kalamaki area, at the very end of the bay. To get there easily, park near the Crystal Beach Hotel and walk about 200 meters around the seaside cliff. The beach is quiet, and the water is incredibly calm and clear.
Dafni Beach
A wild, uncommercialized beach located within the National Marine Park (famous for Caretta-Caretta loggerhead sea turtle nesting). If you walk to the far right end of the beach and cross a small rocky section through the shallow water, you will find a hidden second bay completely dedicated to nudism.
Gerakas Beach
Located at the southern tip of the Vasilikos peninsula. The main stretch of sand is highly protected for environmental preservation, but the far left end of the bay, right against the imposing clay cliffs, hosts a regular mixed-crowd naturist and gay-friendly community.
Xigia Beach
While not exclusively gay, this beach is famous for its natural sulfur and collagen thermal springs. In the more isolated rocky area to the right (away from the main canteen), nudism is common and well-accepted.
Gay-Friendly Bars and Nightlife
The nightlife in Zakynthos is highly intense in the Laganas area, but it mostly caters to a younger, mainstream tourist crowd. However, there are excellent, inclusive venues on the island
Hotlips Karaoke Showbar (Laganas)
This is historically known as the only bar on Zakynthos explicitly geared toward the LGBTQ+ community. It features a relaxed, fun, and highly welcoming environment focused on karaoke nights, attracting queer locals and tourists for drinks and mingling.
Cebu Club (Zakynthos Town / Argassi)
One of the most sophisticated nightclubs on the island, located on the coastal road. It is officially branded as an LGBTQ+ and trans-safe space. It features prominent DJs, visual light shows, and one of the best open-air dance floors on the island.
Infinity Beach Club (Laganas)
A modern, upscale beach club located right on the sand. While it caters to a general crowd, it stands out for its cosmopolitan, open-minded, and highly inclusive atmosphere, making it perfect for relaxing on premium sunbeds during the day and enjoying sunset parties.
